Mission Focus or Missing Focus?
Sermon Text: Mark 6:7-13
Am I a disciple of Jesus Christ? Before answering that quickly, think further on the cost that is involved in being a disciple of Christ. There are hundreds of Christians who are martyred each day for their belief in Christ. One of the hallmarks of discipleship in Christ it is the focus of going out into the world to take the message of the Gospel to the unsaved. As the Disciples were sent out two by two in our text, so are we called to go our and to preach the Gospel to the unsaved.
We have to be careful about trying to directly apply passages such as this directly to us as the Church. We see Matt 10:5-6 that the disciples were to go only to the Jews. There are principles that we can take, such as the wisdom in going out in pairs when witnessing.
Contained in the general call to go and make disciples of all the world is the concept of being an ambassador and representing Christ accurately. Evangelism is just the starting point. Once a person has been saved we are then called to disciple them so that they will go out to do the same.
