Sermon Text:

Jesus will build His Church. There are many believers around the world who have gathered to worship God. Some are free to gather to worship. Others do so under the pain of death. But everywhere, the local church is the basis of the Church of Christ. And God will bring into the local church people with a range of skills to compliment the rest of the body.

Today’s church is so bogged down with programs, committees and other distractions. Pastors in many churches have their lives taken up with a wide range of extra tasks, beyond what are required for him to be doing. The essentials for the Pastor are family, prayer and study of the word.

A church needs their pastor to be living in a relationship with Jesus. If he does not have it, then the word that is preached will be of low value. If a pastor is not keeping the important things as the important things, then their function will not be optimal.

True mission work is to stand and preach the Gospel. Too many within the ‘church’ claim that missions is more than that. They would have you believe that we need to do more to be ‘missional.’ And these become a distraction from missions. For example, if someone’s focus is on feeding the poor, but they do not use is as a primary way of preaching the Gospel, then they are doing social work, not missional work. And they are setting up those who they help for a worse state than they are already in.
