Generosity

Acts 4:32 - 5:11

In Australia, we have so much and therefore seem to have lost the generosity which is pictured in the book of Acts. Most in the church today are content to build their own empires, and live their lives apart from the needs of others.

It is loving for us to see someone’s need, and to provide it to them. However we need to be careful, as welfare has damaged our society. It has reached the stage where many today think it is an entitlement to receive welfare. The Bible tells us that “if you don’t work, you don’t eat.” The charity shown in Acts is for those who genuinely had a need, not for those who chose a life of charity and laziness instead of working.

In the west, we have worked to remove fear from our and our children’s lives. But fear has it’s place. We are commanded to fear the LORD. In the situation of Ananias and Sapphira, God used the situation to remind the church of His holiness, righteousness and justice. It is important to note that Ananias and Sapphira’s sin was not holding back some of the money from the sale of their property. Their sin was lying about how much they sold the property for.
