Division Amongst Labourers
How important to you are the brothers and sisters around you in your local church? There is no area of ministry more difficult than that of long service in the Church. One of the problems with today’s Christian is that they are constantly distracted from service in the church. Reality is different from dreams. As much as we have a a picture as to how we think ministry will be, it is often different. Ministry will challenge your integrity and tenacity.
We need to a learn to persist in God’s calling until He chooses to move us. Ministry will cause to you shrink back or to persist. We see in this passage that John Mark departs from the service he has been called to. And although we do not see the reason for this departure, is causes a rift firstly between Paul and John, and later between Paul and Barnabas.
So how does this effect the others in the local church around us? If we have been called to ministry in the local church we must ensure that we are steadfast in that call so that we do not cause our brothers to stumble, nor to distract their focus from their ministry. If we pull out of the work we are doIng, it places pressure on those around us who then have to take up that slack.
